Team Assignments & Roles

You can manage your project team assignments and assign roles (such as Project Manager, Product Engineer, Tester) by clicking the Team button in the top action toolbar.

Managing Assignments

  1. Open the Team overlay from the top toolbar.
  2. Click Add Team Member.
  3. Select the employee, assign their project Role, and define the Effective Start Date and optional Effective End Date.

Common Role Codes

CodeRole NameCommon Application
PMProject ManagerProject governance, activation approvals, and budgeting.
PEProduct EngineerEngineering, software development, and technical tasks.
TSTRTesterQuality assurance, testing, and validations.

COORDCoordinatorScheduling and client correspondence.

PM Exclusivity & Resolution Rules

  • Indirect PM Storage: The Project Manager (PM) is not stored directly in the project header table (proj). Instead, the PM is dynamically resolved from the proj_team table by looking up assignments where:
    proj_role = 'PM'
  • Single PM Rule: Only one Project Manager can be active on a project at any given time.
  • PM Exclusivity Rule (Auto-Expiration): Assigning a new PM automatically expires the previous PM's assignment by setting their effective end date to the day before the new PM's start date, maintaining historical data integrity without overlaps.

Testing Checklist

Verify the following team management behaviors:

  1. Assign PM: Add an employee with the PM role. Verify that the PM name updates immediately in the Workspace Header and Project Progress panel.
  2. Assign Members: Add multiple employees with different role codes (e.g., PE, TSTR).
  3. Dropdown Integrations: Verify that assigned team members appear in the employee dropdown lists on the timesheet logging and shift scheduling screens.
  4. PM Auto-Expire: Assign a new employee as PM starting on a specific date. Check the database or team log to ensure the previous PM's end date is set to the day before the new PM's start date.
  5. Security Locks: Ensure team assignments cannot be added, edited, or removed once the project is in DONE or CANCEL status.
